Tony Kearns,DC, ATC
Director of Sports Medicine

Dr Kearns is in his 5th year as Director of Sports Medicine at SMC. Prior to joining the team, Tony ran a private sports chiropractic and athletic training business based in Santa Clara. Through his business, he has served as head athletic trainer to teams across the Bay Area including SCU lacrosse and rugby, Sonoma State Lacrosse, SMC Lacrosse and Rugby and assistant athletic trainer to the former San Jose Stealth Professional Lacrosse team.

Tony’s roles at SMC include overseeing day-to-day operation of all sports medicine services Administratively, Tony serves as serves as the Fellowship Coordinator, manages the budget, and serves as the director of the prescription medication program and physician liaison.

Tony received his BA in Kinesiology from Whittier College and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic West. A year after completing his chiropractic degree, Tony was certified as a Chiropractic Sports Physician by the ACBSP. Tony is pleased to contribute a diverse background of integrated sports medicine ideas to the top notch Saint Mary’s sports medicine program.

He lives in Walnut Creek with his wife, Katie, son, Parker, and daughter, Jolie.

Jennifer O'HaraJennifer O'Hara, MS, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Jennifer O’Hara is in her first year with the SMC Sports Medicine Staff. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Biology from University of California, Davis in 2008. She went on to obtain a Master’s in Athletic Training from Bridgewater State University, working with men’s soccer, wrestling, as well as swimming and diving. Following Graduate school Jennifer was an intern athletic trainer at University of the Pacific, primarily working with off baseball, women’s soccer and volleyball.

Jennifer comes to SMC from a two year tenure as an assistant athletic trainer at Menlo College, her responsibilities included working with volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball. While at Menlo Jennifer oversaw graduate and undergraduate level athletic training students as an approved preceptor of the San Jose State athletic training education program. She also helped to implement functional movement screens as part of pre- participation physicals

Jennifer’s responsibilities at SMC will be women’s basketball, and helping to oversee cross country, track and field as well as softball.

Emily SilvaEmily Silva, MS, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Emily Silva is in her first year with the SMC Athletic Training Staff. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from University of the Pacific in 2012, and her Master’s degree in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine from Utah State University in 2014. While at UOP, she worked with women’s field hockey, baseball, St. Mary’s High School varsity football, and women’s volleyball. As a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Utah State her responsibilities included head athletic trainer with women’s gymnastics and assistant athletic trainer with football. 

Along with her colligate experience; Emily has worked at Woodward West, an extreme sports camp in Tehachapi, Calif., cheerleading with the United Spirit Association and high school wrestling state championships. Emily also served as a member of the National Athletic Training Student’s Committee for one year, which allowed her outreach to athletic training students and increase student involvement within the professional organization.

Emily’s responsibilities at SMC will be with the men’s soccer and baseball programs. Administratively she will serve as lead for Saint Mary’s College Athletics Emergency Response program, sickle cell policy and exertional heat prevention program.

Chris JameroChris Jamero, MA, ATC

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Chris Jamero is in his 1st year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Saint Mary’s College. He recently earned a Master of Arts degree from Fresno State in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science. As a part of his degree, Chris wrote a thesis entitled The Isokinetic Comparison of Collegiate Baseball Players With and Without Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit. He also received his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Fresno State in 2011. He possesses certifications in the Functional Movement Screen and is a Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM. 

Prior to joining SMC, Chris spent three years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Fresno Pacific University where he worked with the men’s soccer, baseball, and aquatics programs. He has experience as a volunteer athletic trainer with semi-professional soccer team, Fresno Fuego FC and is in his 5th year with the United Spirit Association.

Chris brings a diverse background and depth of experience to the Saint Mary’s Sports Medicine team.

Jesse PurcellJesse Purcell
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Jesse Purcell returns to Saint Mary’s College as an assistant athletic trainer. Her first tour of duty in Moraga was as an athletic training fellow for the 2013-14 academic year. Prior to her return to SMC, Jesse worked at UC San Diego as an athletic trainer for Sports Clubs and previously as a Post-Graduate Intern Athletic Trainer with Intercollegiate Athletics

During her time with Sports Clubs she shared coverage for 30 club sports teams with her primary responsibility covering men’s and women’s rugby, while also serving as a preceptor for the San Diego State University athletic training program. While at UCSD, she worked with men’s water polo, fencing and softball. Prior to working at UC San Diego Purcell worked as the athletic trainer for Branham High School in San Jose, Calif. in addition to her time at Saint Mary’s.

Jesse received her B.A. in Psychology from Scripps College in 2010 and her M.S. in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa in 2013.
