MSOC | Five Gaels Honored on WCC All-Conference Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Headlined by Rafael Sanchez being named to the All-WCC first team, Saint Mary’s men’s soccer earned a total five players that were honored in the West Coast Conference postseason awards on Tuesday.

Along with Sanchez- Ben Braman, Jakub Svehlik, Andrew Konstantino and Jake Rudel were all recognized as part of the WCC nominees.

Ending the season with an overall record of 8-8-3 and 4-3 in conference, the young Gaels team were right in the mix to capture this season’s conference title.

Selected to the first team, senior defender and midfielder Sanchez earned his third straight honor as one of the best in the conference. For the season, Sanchez tied for the team lead in assists (4).

Braman, a 6-1 defender, earned his first ever nomination in the postseason awards after being selected to the conference’s second team. The junior scored his lone goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Pacific.

First year player Jakub Svehlik was also selected to the WCC second team after an impressive season where he appeared in 18 games and scored one goal. The 5-7 midfielder also tallied one assist and was second on the team in shots on goal (9).

After a 5-5-1 record and 53 saves, Andrew Konstantino was named as a WCC honorable mention. Konstantino led the conference in several categories- goals against average (0.56), saves per game (5.25) and save percentage (.913).

Two first year players were also named to the all freshman team. Jake Rudel, a 6-3 versatile player appeared in 19 games on the season and was second on the team with three goals. Two of his goals were game winning scores for the Gaels. Svehlik was also on the all freshman team along with his honor as a second team selection.
