PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Beginning Friday, the Gaels will play in their second tournament of the year at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Saint Mary’s will roll into Palm Springs with a 2-4 record after last weekend’s tournament at the Kajikawa Classic where they defeated UTEP and UT Arlington.
The Gaels will play doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday and one final game on Sunday before returning to Moraga. During the tournament, SMC will square off against Utah Valley, Illinois, Kent State, Liberty, and CSUN, in that order.
Leading the charge for the Gaels is senior Katie Moss who shined during the Kajikawa Classic while on the mound. Moss ceded a 0.69 ERA in 20.1 innings spread out over five appearances and picked up 11 strikeouts. Eryn McCoy and Katlyn Whitt shored up the Saint Mary’s pitching corps as both ladies recorded sub-3 ERAs.
Saint Mary’s will look to get their offense started at the Mary Nutter Classic as they enter the tournament with a team batting average of .217. Jaymee Campbell currently leads the Gaels in average after going 4-for-9 (.444) with four walks over the weekend and Abbey Mariani is batting .294 with five total hits from the middle of the lineup.
The action begins at 10 a.m. on Friday against Utah Valley and you can see the full schedule by clicking here. Results and recaps can be found at the end of each day at SMCGaels.com.
