KOHALA COAST, Hawaii — After a less than ideal performance on Thursday, Saint Mary’s rebounded with an excellent team effort on Friday to jump seven spots in the standings in the Amer Ari Intercollegiate. The Gaels combined to shoot 9-under 288 in Friday’s action and now sit at 3-over with one more round to play.
Eduardo Carrete mirrored his strong play on Thursday with another 3-under 72 round to move to 6-under in the tournament. The freshman is tied-13th out of 120 golfers in the individual leaderboard and currently leads all Saint Mary’s golfers.
Hunter Rappleye posted the strongest round of the day for the Gaels with a 4-under showing. Rappleye made a huge jump in the standings, leaping up 40 spots, to tied-45th and sits at 1-under in the tournament. Also making big jumps for the Gaels were Roman Aragon and Perry Cohen who shot identical 1-under rounds on Friday, moving up 17 and 16 spots, respectively. Connor Blick improved by 3 strokes over his Thursday performance with a 3-over round.
No. 7 USC (35-under) leads all teams after two rounds and holds a one stroke advantage over second place No. 18 Texas Tech heading into the final day. On the player leaderboard, Trojan Rico Hoey currently leads all golfers with a two round score of 14-under.
The Gaels will look to repeat today’s solid performance on Saturday to complete the Amer Ari. Check back tomorrow to find the tournament recap on SMCGaels.com
