LA QUINTA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s golf team finished The Prestige at PGA West in solo tenth place after shooting 16-over in the final round of the three-day tournament.
Ranked 16 in the latest GolfStat rankings, LSU claimed its second consecutive title at the tournament after scoring even-par 852 total. Pepperdine finished in lone second place and moved up five spots on the final leaderboard with a 4-over total 856. Oklahoma claimed third while Texas Tech and Stanford round out the top five at 9-over par.
First year player Eduardo Carrete led the Gaels in the final round with his even-par round 71. The freshman recorded three straight bogeys in the front nine, but bounced back nicely with birdies on holes 7, 9 and 12. Carrete ended the tournament tied-25th with a 4-over total.
Junior Perry Cohen shot a final round 75 and finished tied-26th for his third top-30 finish of the 2016-17 season. After a strong start to the tournament Roman Aragon struggled down the stretch, as the junior finished tied-32nd.
Saint Mary’s will make its next appearance down in the desert at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz. The two day tournament will take place next weekend, Saturday, March 3.
