GOLF | Saint Mary's Finishes Third in WCC Championship

PROVO, Utah — The Saint Mary’s golf team shot a final round 7-under to finish in third place at the 2017 WCC Championship in Riverside Country Club.

This year’s host BYU claimed the title with a total score of 24-under par. The Cougars shot a 7-under final round. Pepperdine maintained its second place finish with a team total of 17-under.

The Gaels ended the tournament at 12-under par (852). Pacific and Santa Clara both finished at 2-under par for the tournament to place tied-4th.

Perry Cohen delivered the low round of the day for SMC, shooting a 4-under 68. Starting on the back nine, the junior scored birdies on holes 12 and 15. The San Diego native finished with three more birdies on holes 2, 5 and the tough par 3 9th.

Playing in his final round at a conference tournament, senior Hunter Rappleye finished strong with an even-par 72 in today’s 18 holes. The senior shot 2-over in his first nine, but strung together strong play in his last nine holes with two birdies and seven pars. Rappleye placed tied-7th in the field.

Connor Blick hit even his first nine holes and shot 2-under in his last nine holes to finish the tournament at 2-under and tied-11th. Blick would birdie the par 5 5th, eagle the par 5 7th and birdie the 8th hole.

Junior Pavan Sagoo continued to grind through the tournament with a tough final round. The London, England native shot 1-under par in his first nine holes with a birdie and eight pars. Sagoo would score three bogeys in his last nine holes to go along with a birdie on the par 5 5th.

Roman Aragon would finish with a final round 1-under 71. The junior finished the tournament

with the 1-under score to place tied-15th. Aragon scored an impressive eagle on the par 5 13th. After a second shot that found the green, Aragon would sink the 20-foot putt for the eagle.

The Gaels will await the announcement of NCAA Regionals which will be presented on May 4th, 2017.
