WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Behind by 11 strokes to start the final round of the NCAA Midwest Regional, Saint Mary's made a strong run to get as close as five strokes of fifth place, but ultimately ended the regional tied-6th at 21-over par.

UNLV secured the top spot in the regional with a final score of 8-over par. The Rebels won by three strokes despite shooting 11-over in the final round. Auburn (+11), New Mexico (+16), Illinois (+14) and Purdue (+18) round out the top-5 to make it through to the NCAA Championship. The Gaels would tie with Augusta for the sixth place finish.

Illinois State's Trent Wallace advances to next week's NCAA Championship after finishing as the low individual player in the field that is not part of one of the five teams advancing. Wallace finished the regional at 1-over par (218).

The final round proved to be the tournament's toughest by far, as winds gusted through Kampen Golf Course to as fast as 40 miles per hour.

Junior Pavan Sagoo was in close contention on the player leaderboard, in hopes of reaching the NCAA Championship as an individual. Sagoo would get his round started on the right foot with a birdie on the opening 10th hole. The wind quickly began to gust during his round, forcing tougher conditions to shoot lower scores.

Sagoo would ultimately finish with a round of 78 and place tied-10th in the leaderboard.

Perry Cohen would conclude the tournament with his best round of the week. Cohen would shoot a final round 70 and end tied-21st. The San Diego native would make six birdies in his round with his first two coming on holes 12 and 13. Cohen would then birdie the long 604-yard par 5 16th to shoot 34 in his front nine.

After a bogey on hole 1, Cohen would rebound with birdies on 3, 4 and 6 before bogeying the 18th.

On his 21st birthday, Roman Aragon displayed his best golf of the tournament with a final round 70. 1-over on his round through five holes, Aragon would birdie the 15th and the 18th with a chip-in from the fringe.

Aragon would shoot two more birdies in his round as he would capitalize on the par 5 4th and 6th holes.

Connor Blick would finish the regional at 9-over par after a tough round of 75. The junior would shoot 1-under in his opening nine holes, but the wind and tough conditions forced Blick to shoot 4-over in his back nine.

In his last collegiate tournament for the Gaels, senior Hunter Rappleye shot one birdie on his round and finished the regionals tied-50th.

Seeded No.10 in the regional, the Gaels would finish better than the top seed Florida Gators, fifth-seed South Carolina and sixth-seed Colorado Buffs.
