SAN DIEGO — In its first conference match of 2017, the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team (3-5, 0-1 WCC) came up short against the Toreros, 4-0.
The day’s action started out well for the Gaels, as the top doubles duo of Nash Vollenweider and Damon Kesaris displayed smart, powerful tennis. The tandem played a solid match together to claim the 6-3 win on court 1.
USD claimed matches on courts 2 and 3 to eventually capture the valuable doubles point.
In singles action, three of the six matches became no decisions. The Toreros claimed wins on courts 1, 3 and 4 for the victory.
Kesaris continued to play impressive tennis as the first year player was holding down the action in the second spot. Kesaris won the first set of his match 6-3.
Saint Mary’s will stay on the road next week to play another pair of matches. The Gaels will first take on Sacramento State on Friday, March 3 at 1 p.m. SMC will then face Nevada in Reno on Saturday, March 4 at noon.
