WTEN | Gaels Host BYU, San Diego in Big Week

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team (8-6, 3-1 WCC) will be back on its home courts for the week’s conference action, hosting BYU on Friday, April 7, and San Diego on Saturday at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.

First serve versus the Cougars is set for 2 p.m., while the match versus USD will begin at 1 p.m. With rain forecasted for the weekend, stay tuned to and follow the Gaels on social media @SMCGaels for time updates and potential schedule changes.

The Gaels are riding a two-match win streak, and have won six of their last seven matches. SMC swept USF last week and defeated Santa Clara, 4-2, in a highly competitive match.

Jacqueline Pelletier has won three in a row, and is now 4-3 on court 2 for the Gaels. The freshman is also tough in doubles action with partner Clementine Clement. Clement and Pelletier are now 6-1 as the third doubles team, and swept its competition last week.

Senior Parminder Kaur continues to provide a consistency in the back portion of the Gaels lineup. Kaur is now 6-2 in the sixth spot for SMC and have won three in a row on court 6. She is now 7-1 in her last 10 matches.

Saint Mary’s is a combined 25-18 in doubles competition thus far in the dual season.

About the Cougars

BYU (6-9, 1-2 WCC) currently sits seventh in the West Coast Conference standings. The Cougars are coming off a 4-1 loss to Gonzaga, but have won three of its past four contests.

The Cougars are winless on the road so far in the dual season, with losses coming at Fresno State, Denver, Hawaii and San Diego.

About the Toreros

San Diego (7-9, 3-0 WCC) is currently tied for first in the WCC standings. The Toreros are coming off two dominating wins over Gonzaga and Portland. Before the two-game win streak, USD lost to Princeton and nationally-ranked No. 37 Dartmouth.

The Toreros are currently 80-72 in singles action, and 36-35 in doubles competition.

Daniela Morales currently holds an eight match win streak and is 7-1 on court 2. Morales is also 3-1 in her four matches played on court 3.

Along with Morales, Colomba DiFillippo are 6-6 as the top doubles team for USD.
