MORAGA, Calif. — A match that was originally scheduled for earlier in the month, Saint Mary’s women’s tennis (12-7, 7-2 WCC) hosted BYU (8-13, 3-6 WCC) in a rematch and defeated the Cougars, 4-2.
The victory locks Saint Mary’s as the third seed in this week’s West Coast Conference Championship in Claremont, Calif. The championship will be held at Biszantz Family Tennis Center from April 27-29.
Nationally-ranked No. 13 Pepperdine will be the No. 1 seed while Gonzaga claims the second seed. After the Gaels comes San Diego, LMU and BYU to round out the field of six qualifying teams.
SMC will open the tournament versus BYU on Thursday, April 27, at 10 a.m. PT.

The Gaels clinched the win with four singles victories as doubles matches were not played.
Clementine Clement pulled through on court 2 with a three-setter. After dropping the first set, Clement came clutch and won the remaining two sets, 6-4 and 6-3 for her eighth win of the dual season.
Senior Parminder Kaur won her 10th match of the dual campaign with her dominating in on court 4. The senior improves to 2-0 on the season at court 4.
Vanessa Nommensen notched the second win of the match on court 6 in a straight-set, one sided performance. Nommensen played a solid all-around match en route to the 6-3, 6-1 victory.
First year player Danielle McIntyre bounced back with extreme toughness and grit to win her match at the No. 5 slot. The freshman dropped the first set 6-0, but came back in a fury with a 7-5, 6-2 finish in the second and third set.
