CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s women’s tennis team will travel south to compete in the 2017 West Coast Conference Championship as the No. 3 seed and will open the conference tournament versus sixth seed BYU on Thursday, April 27 at 10 a.m.

This year’s matches will be held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The winner between the Gaels and Cougars will face off No. 2 seed Gonzaga on Friday at 10 a.m.

Saint Mary’s is coming off the impressive 4-2 win over the Cougars yesterday in a rescheduled match. The Gaels finished the regular season 12-7 overall and 7-2 in WCC action.

The seven conference wins is the most in a single season since 2014-15 when the Gaels finished nationally-ranked and went on to the first round of the NCAA Championships.

The Gaels will be the third-seed for the second consecutive season. SMC reached the WCC Finals in last year’s championship, defeating San Francisco and Gonzaga before falling to No. 1 seed Pepperdine.

SMC has defeated BYU four straight times as the last loss versus the Cougars came in March 2014.

The Gaels depth will play a key role in the tournament’s singles action. Sophomore Clementine Clement is 6-6 as the No. 3 player for the Gaels and is on a two match win streak.

Kareena Manji continues to perform well on court 4 shown by her 9-3 record. Manji is 6-2 in her last 10 matches.

Senior Parminder Kaur is undefeated in WCC action as she is 5-0 in conference play. The senior is 2-0 on court 4, 2-1 at the No. 5 spot and 6-2 on court 6. Kaur is on a six match win streak to lead the Gaels.

The Gaels doubles teams continue to impress with an overall record 30-21 (.588 win percentage). Manji and Jana McCord has been a force all season long with a 4-1 record in WCC matches. The duo is 2-0 on court 1 and 7-4 as the No. 2 doubles team.
