MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's women's tennis team improved its overall depth and potential with its new class of signees, as the Gaels have the sixth best recruiting class among Mid-Majors, it was announced today by the Tennis Recruiting Network.
SMC will include a pair of international talent, with the addition of Aubane Ville and Maria Kozyreva.
Native of St. Petersburg Russia, Kozyreva finished her high school in Roseville, Calif., and poses an impressive resumé in international competition. She competed in ITF Grade 5 tournaments in both Armenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina in singles play. She also finished as a semi-finalist in a Grade 4 tournament in Turkey as well as a finalist in a Grade 3 competition in Russia.
Coming from Lé daupine, France, Ville chose Saint Mary's after being heavily recruited by Fresno State, USF, DePaul and Tennessee due to her success on the International Tennis Federation. In her time in the ITF, Ville ranked No. 800 in the ITF junior rankings en route to regional championships and playing in the national championship at the famed clay courts of the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris.
The Gaels lost two seniors, as Jana McCord and Parminder Kaur graduated their way to exceptional careers at SMC. In 2017-18, SMC will have three seniors, one junior, one sophomore and three first year players for a nice mix of veteran leadership and youthful talent.
