MORAGA, Calif. — In addition to Aubane Ville and Maria Kozryeva, the Saint Mary's women's tennis team will add newcomer Hind Abdelouahid to the deep and talented 2017-18 roster, the team announced today.

“We are so excited to have Hind join us next season,” said Saint Mary's Associate Head Coach Simon Harston. “She is an amazing athlete, has a really big game and a ton of potential. Hind understands collegiate athletics and will bring the competitive attitude we want on the court.”

A Bay Area native from Manteca, Abdelouahid joins the Gaels after an impressive resumé on the junior and professional circuits. An accomplished doubles player, Abdelouahid won two Nor Cal 18's sectional titles. Competing against the top junior tennis players in the country, Abdelouahid claimed the title of the USTA National Selection doubles competition.

A 6-foot graduate of Valley Christian Academy (Roseville, Calif.), Abdelouahid was a consistent competitor in international action. Competing in doubles tournaments in Canada, Abdelouahid continued to impress with her victory in the ITF grade 5 doubles at the Canadian Saville. She advanced to the semifinals of the ITF grade 2 doubles tournament at the 2016 Canadian U-18 World Ranking Event, and the grade 3 doubles competition at the Silex Canada Junior Vancouver Championships.

Traveling to countries like Morocco and Tunisia, Abdelouahid reached the quarterfinals in four doubles competitions and one singles tournament. The incoming freshman reached a career high doubles ranking of 1227 in the world.

Abdelouahid was heavily recruited from programs like Colorado, Pacific, UC Santa Barbara, Michigan State, Howard and Northern Arizona, but ultimately elected to become a Gael.

“I chose Saint Mary's for multiple reasons,” said Abdelouahid. “The coaches played a big part in my decision to go there as I instantly made a connection with them. I immediately got along with the girls on the team who all made me feel like I was part of a family.”

“Saint Mary's is my ideal school because it is a small and close community, and it is close to home. I am very familiar with the area, and overall, Saint Mary's is the best place to be at.”

Abdelouahid comes from a family with a strong sports background, as her older brother Amine currently plays soccer at Chico State, and younger brother Anas is currently a 5-star tennis recruit.

In her academic pursuits, Abdelouahid will major in Sport and Recreation Management. After earning her degree, she plans to continue playing tennis on the professional circuit.
