SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s reeled off their second consecutive conference win on Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Santa Clara (6-8, 1-3 WCC). The Gaels are off to a strong start in conference play this season with wins in three of their first four WCC matches.

“Another exciting, difficult college match,” said associate head coach Simon Harston after the victory. “The girls are finding ways to play tough in clutch moments.”

The Gaels (7-6, 3-1 WCC) picked up three singles’ wins against the Broncos thanks to strong play from Jacqueline Pelletier, Parminder Kaur, and Danielle McIntyre. All three Gaels defeated their opponents in straights sets and were led by Pelletier’s 6-3, 6-4 victory from the second position. Kaur won in 6-4, 6-4 fashion while McIntyre took down her competitor 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

“Santa Clara is a good team and to beat them at their place is always a challenge,” said Harston. “You have to earn the W.”

Saint Mary’s clinched the vital doubles’ point with the tandems of Kareena Manji/Jana McCord and Clementine Clement/Pelletier picking up victories, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-3, respectively.

Saint Mary’s returns home for their next match against BYU on Friday, Apr. 7 at 2 p.m. The Gaels will get back on the courts less than 24 hours after playing the Cougars as they take on San Diego on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Moraga. As always, admission is free at all Saint Mary’s tennis matches.
