SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Saint Mary’s volleyball players Lindsey Calvin and Lindsey Knudsen were named Tuesday to the 2016 West Coast Conference Volleyball All-Academic team while three other Gaels received honorable mention honors.

Knudsen carries a near-perfect 3.97 cumulative Grade Point Average while double-majoring in accounting and economics. Her GPA is the highest on the 12-member WCC All-Academic team. She is also the Gaels’ offensive leader this season with a career-high 296 kills. She has 11 double-doubles on the year thanks in part to 266 digs, second-most on the team. Knudsen has also recorded 36 total blocks, 17 service aces and 17 assists.

Calvin boasts a 3.90 GPA in English. She is one of just four WCC All-Academic Team members who carry a GPA of 3.90 or higher. Calvin has shifted into an offensive role this season from her middle blocking emphasis a year ago. She is second on the team with a career-high 226 kills and also second with 61 total blocks.

Mary Hernandez (3.44 GPA in business administration), Payton Rund (3.719 GPA in kinesiology) and Alexis Salmons (3.279 GPA in communication) were all named WCC All-Academic honorable mention. Hernandez and Salmons were also named WCC All-Academic honorable mention in 2015.

“We take great pride in both our academic and athletic success,” said Saint Mary’s head coach Rob Browning. “To excel in both, as these student-athletes have, means everything to me. It is not easy to achieve high levels of success in both areas, but these outstanding student-athletes have done it by putting in the necessary time and effort. Hats off to them.”

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
