DAVIS, Calif. — The Saint Mary’s baseball team’s bats woke up late Tuesday to the sound of a four-run eighth inning rally, earning the Gaels another comeback win in a 5-2 non-conference victory at the Dobbins Baseball Complex.

Saint Mary’s (11-5) entered the eighth trailing 2-1, and that’s when it went to work. Four of the Gaels’ first five batters reached safely, included three straight singles from Jackson Thoreson, Edward Haus and Kevin Milam. Rasso scrambled to third on a bobble by UC Davis left fielder Ryan Anderson. That allowed Haus to drive him in, tying the game at 2-2.

Charles Zaloumis drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to extend the rally and give Saint Mary’s the lead at 3-2. Logan Steinberg tallied his second hit of the game with a single to right-center, scoring two and making it 5-2.

Kevin Milam worked two shutout innings for his NCAA-leading seventh save of the year. He struck out two and only allowed one hit. He also went 1 for 3 at the plate with a run scored.

Joey Fiske extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single in the sixth. His base hit was the Gaels’ first of the game, breaking up Matt Blais’ no-hit bid. He went on to steal both second and third base, then came home to score when catcher Ignacio Diaz’s throw to third went into left field.

UC Davis (5-10) started the third inning with five consecutive singles. The runners all moved station-to-station each time with four of the hits finding holes in the infield. Mason Novak’s and Ryan Anderson’s singles – No. 4 and 5 in the sequence – brought home runs and gave the Aggies a 2-0 lead.

Saint Mary’s concludes its eight-game road trip with a four-game non-conference series at CSUN beginning Friday. Fans can find all coverage links for the series on
