Saint Mary’s point guard Patrick Mills (Canberra, Australia) was named the West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Nov. 24. For Mills, it marks the fourth time in his career that he has garnered the weekly honor, and first this season.
Last week, Mills averaged 21.5 points while leading Saint Mary's to a 2-0 record following wins over Fresno State (99-85) and Vanguard (86-54). He connected on 16-of-31 shots overall, to shoot 51.6 percent from the floor, and averaged 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals. Additionally, he connected on 5-of-12 shots from behind to arc, to shoot 41.6 percent from 3-point range.
The sophomore scored a game-high 27 points on Monday against Fresno State, while dishing out five assists and making six steals against the Bulldogs. The 27-point game marked his 10th career 20-point performance in 34 appearances as a Gael. Against Vanguard, he scored a game-high 16 points while leading SMC to a 32-point win over the Lions.
For the season, Mills is averaging 19.3 points, 5.0 assists and 3.3 steals per game, while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point land.
