MORAGA, Calif. — No matter what happens on Saturday, Gabe Arias-Sheridan will make history as the first Saint Mary’s cross country runner to compete at the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championship, this year held at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
HOW DID HE GET THERE
Arias-Sheridan qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championship meet on Friday as an individual. He finished seventh at the NCAA West Regional Championship, clocking 29 minutes, 54.2 seconds over the 10-kilometer course at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento. Arias-Sheridan had finished 101st in 2015.
The 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country Championship 10 km race goes off at 9 a.m. PST/noon EST. A total of 31 seven-person teams and 38 individuals from nine regions qualified and were selected to compete in the championship, making for 255 runners in the race. The top-40 finishers in the race earn All-American honors.
Indiana State University will host the championships on Saturday at LaVern Gibson Championship Course at Wabash Valley Family Sport Center, located in Terre Haute, Ind.
