MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's cross country program announced the addition of six new student-athletes to the women's team for the 2017-18 school year, bringing a multitude of athleticism with team, league and state accolades to boot.

“We are very excited to have a large incoming freshman class,” said Saint Mary's assistant coach Brett Zorich. “They have a lot of raw, untapped potential which will be great to build off of. Our women's team looks to be one of the strongest in school history (this coming fall season).”

Grace De LeonGrace De Leon – Fernley, Nev. (Fernley HS)

Intended Major at SMC: Business Administration

Achievements: Was a four-time letterwinner in both cross country and track, along with basketball, at Fernley (Nev.) High School ... Was a Nevada All-State Honorable Mention in cross country her senior season of 2016 while finishing eighth at the state championship meet ... Part of a record-holding 4x800-meters relay team at Fernley HS that won the regional and state titles in the spring of 2017 ... Same 4x800 relay squad earned two other top-three finishes at the state meet and three other top-three finishes at regionals ... Specialized in the middle distances (800, 1,600) while showing strength in the longer distances (3,200, 5,000) as well.


Danie DestefanoDanie Destefano – Placerville, Calif. (El Dorado HS)

Intended Major at SMC: Biology

Achievements: An all-league honoree and letterwinner in four different sports (cross country, track, soccer, wrestling) at El Dorado High School in Placerville ... Tabbed all-league seven times in cross country (4) and track (3) alone ... Earned school's Natalie Hebron Award for playing three sports all four years of high school while maintaining a Grade Point Average of 3.5 or above ... Helped lead Cougars to four straight Sierra Valley Conference cross country titles and two appearances at the California Interscholastic Federation state championship meet.


Abby MangilogAbby Mangilog – Sunnyvale, Calif. (Archbishop Mitty HS)

Intended Major at SMC: Undecided

Achievements: A multi-letterwinner at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose ... Named first-team all-West Catholic Athletic League on three occasions ... Tabbed to San Jose Mercury News first team and second team during her career ... Helped lead the Monarchs to the CIF state meet three times, as well as the West Catholic Athletic League and Central Coast Section titles in 2014 ... Was a team captain and named team's Most Outstanding Runner her senior year, Most Improved her sophomore year and earned the team's Black and Gold Award her junior year ... Specialized in long-distance events (1,600, 3,200) during track season.


Emma McCarthyEmma McCarthy – Concord, Calif. (Carondelet HS)

Intended Major at SMC: Business Administration

Achievements: Earned letters in three sports at Carondelet High School in Concord, including three in track where she specialized as a middle-distance runner ... Was part of Carondelet's distance medley relay squad that finished first at the Bay Area Relays ... Also ran in the prestigious Arcadia Invitational on the Cougars' 4x800 relay team ... Showed her athletic versatility with letters in cross country (1) and golf (2) as well.


Abigayle MitchellAbigayle Mitchell – Hughson, Calif. (Hughson HS)

Intended Major at SMC: Undecided

Achievements: Was a three-time league champion for Hughson (Calif.) High School in 2016, winning the Trans-Valley League cross country title as well as topping the podium in the 300 hurdles and 100 hurdles ... Qualified for the CIF state cross country championship meet two years in a row ... Won the Sac-Joaquin Section title in the 300 hurdles in 2016 while also competing with the 4x400 relay team at the Master's Meet ... Helped lead the Huskies to back-to-back TVL titles in 2015 and '16 ... Hughson High also won the Sac-Joaquin Section team cross country title in 2016 ... Was named the TVL Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2016-17 while earning three team MVP awards in cross country (2016) and track (2015, '16).


Courtney Robinson – Galt, Calif. (Liberty Ranch HS)

Intended Major at SMC: Biology

Achievements: A four-time all-Sierra Valley Conference honoree, earning Liberty Ranch High School's team MVP award all four years ... Twice qualified as an individual for the CIF state cross country championship meet ... Also earned all-Sac-Joaquin Section honors for two years ... Participated in USA Junior Olympics cross country competitions ... Also played soccer for four years, captaining the team her senior season while guiding the Hawks to a league championship and playoffs berth.
