MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's and women's cross country teams' 2017 schedule will take them to four different states during 2 1/2 months of racing beginning in September, as announced this week by head coach Marty Kinsey.
The Gaels kick off their 2017 fall schedule on Sept. 1 in Sparks, Nev., at the exciting Nevada Twilight meet. The race is run literally under the lights, as temporary lighting lines the course for the post-sunset competition. The following day the Gaels will be seen at the 25th Annual University of San Francisco Invitational at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
After a dual meet versus rival Santa Clara on Sept. 22, the Gaels will travel to Notre Dame, Ind., on Sept. 29 for the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The following day, members of the teams will compete at the Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento.
“We are excited to add several travel competitions to the schedule this year,” said Kinsey. “Not only will it provide internal competition for our team to earn a varsity spot, it will enhance the student-athlete experience greatly.”
Saint Mary's will return to the South Bay on Oct. 14 for the annual Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara. The 2017 WCC Championships will be held in Oakland on Oct. 27, hosted by USF. The NCAA West Regional will be hosted Nov. 10 in Seattle by the University of Washington. And the NCAA Championships will be held in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 18.
