BERKELEY, Calif. — Four goals from Jocelyn Lubert and a hat-trick by freshman Jillian Dunlap highlighted the day’s action, as Saint Mary’s lacrosse (1-10, 0-5 MPSF) fought till the end but fell short at Kabam Field versus Cal (3-10, 1-3 MPSF), 20-10.

It was a rainy and cloudy night, but Lubert and Dunlap shined for the Gaels.

With four more goals, Lubert now has a team-high 25 goals and 30 points. The junior recorded seven shots on the evening, with five of them on goal.

Dunlap continues to impress for SMC, scoring another hat-trick for a season total of 18 goals. Dunlap showcased her versatility for the Gaels, recording an assist, four ground-balls and a game-high seven draw controls.

Senior Sydney Pinello got the start in the cage for the Gaels, and played 44:15. Pinello finished the match with five saves. Meg Sheehan came in for relief work and saved one shot in 15:45.

The Gaels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead within the first seven minutes of action. Lubert scored on a free position shot, while Dunlap recorded the second from a Megan Zummo feed. After a Golden Bear 8-0 run, Dunlap scored her second with 3:22 to go off a Meagan Bennett assist.

Lubert would score her brace with a little over a minute remaining, as Zummo also recorded her second assist to cut the deficit to 9-4 at the half.

Trailing 12-4, Hannah Dalrymple would score her eighth goal of the season to cut the deficit to seven. Zummo would follow up with a goal of her own at the 25:49 mark in the second half.

With the score 17-7 with 16 minutes to go, the Gaels would make one last push. Dunlap and Lubert would score three goals in a matter of 10 minutes to trail 17-10, but the comeback effort fell short, as the Golden Bears won the conference matchup.

The Gaels will host their Senior Day next Saturday, April 15, versus Fresno State. The Gaels will host the Bulldogs at 5 p.m. SMC will honor its five seniors before the start of the match.
