MORAGA, Calif. — In the team’s second to last home game of the 2017 season, Saint Mary’s (1-11, 0-6 MPSF) honored its five seniors in front of a large crowd during the team’s 19-7 loss to Fresno State (9-6, 2-5 MPSF) Saturday evening.
Junior attacker Claire Healy led the Gaels attack, converting a hat-trick from five total shots. Healy scored two out of her three free position shot attempts. Fellow junior Jocelyn Lubert increased her season total to 27 goals after scoring a brace in today’s contest.
Senior Bennett scored her 14th goal of the year and Hannah Dalrymple notched the team’s seventh goal versus the Bulldogs.
Pinello got the start in the cage for the Gaels and played 17:44 out of the 60 minutes. The senior recorded four saves all in the first half. Meg Sheehan came in for Pinello and notched a save for SMC.
After a goal within the first minute by the Bulldogs, Lubert tied the game at 1-1, at the 27:47 mark.
Fresno State would score eight unanswered to lead 9-1, but Lubert would score her second of the game after a beautiful move inside to secure the team’s second goal.
Fresno State would take a 13-3 lead into the second half and extend the lead to as much as 17-3 with 20:28 left. The Gaels would continued to fight back ending the game on a 3-0 run. Bennett would notch her goal with 5:05 left in the game, as Healy would score the team’s final two scores of the game.
SMC will host its final home game on Friday, April 21 versus Colorado (12-2, 4-1 MPSF). The Gaels will take on CU at 5 p.m.
