SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Kiana Quarles was named to the West Coast Conference All-Academic team, as the Saint Mary’s women’s soccer program had an impressive total of 10 players honored for their academic achievements.
“Academics is the top core value of our program,” said Saint Mary’s head coach Travis Clarke. “The student-athletes on our team take academics very seriously and we support their academic goals as a coaching staff.”
“It is great for some of our student-athletes to be honored not just for their ability on their field, but also in the classroom.”
Quarles was named to the first team with her high 3.89 GPA while majoring in Business Administration. The senior striker played in all 20 matches for the Gaels, which was highlighted by an amazing two goal performance in the 3-0 win over Portland.
The Gaels were honored with nine players on the honorable mention list.
After being named to the conference’s first team, Hannah Diaz collected another award as she carries a 3.52 GPA majoring in Politics. Valerie LaForge started 18 games and currently holds a 3.53 GPA. Majoring in Allied Health Science, Jessica Imbrie and Jasmine Edwards were also named as honorable mentions.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
