WSOC | Gaels Host Bakersfield, Riverside in Saint Mary's Tournament

MORAGA, Calif. — With four games in two days, the Saint Mary's women's soccer team will host its four team tournament this Friday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 10 at Saint Mary's Stadium.

Along with the Gaels (2-3), CSU Bakersfield (3-3), Grambling State (1-3) and UC Riverside (2-2-2) will round out the participants in this weekend's action.

Saint Mary's will kickoff the weekend versus the Roadrunners on Friday at 1 p.m. Live stream between the Gaels and Roadrunners can be found HERE. Live statistics for the opening game will also be available HERE.  

The Gaels will take the pitch again on Sunday afternoon versus UC Riverside at 3:30 p.m. Followers can watch the action live HERE, and follow live stats on the Gaels schedule or by clicking HERE.

The first neutral game will be between Grambling State and UCR on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Before the Gaels take the field on Sunday, the Tigers will face CSU Bakersfield for a morning kickoff at 11 a.m. Live stats for both neutral site matches can be found on the Gaels women's soccer schedule.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS

Senior Hannah Diaz and freshman Vanessa Gaitan continue to rank among the best in goals scored as each player has two on the season. The duo ranks tied-fourth in the WCC in goals scored.

Sophomore keeper Sarah Sawatzky continues to excel in goal for SMC, as she ranks fourth in the WCC in saves per game (4.5). Sawatzky currently has 18 saves through her four starts.

ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD

The Roadrunners opened 2017 with eight goals scored through the first two contests. CSU Bakersfield suffered a close road loss at Sam Houston State, 4-3. The Roadrunners bounced back with a 5-0 win at Prairie View A&M where the team finished with 31 shots.

CSU Bakersfield is currently averaging 1.83 goals per game and 16 shots per game. Putting pressure on opposing defenses, the Roadrunners have 26 corners through six games.

The Roadrunners have three players with at least two goals scored. Kamari Hines, a redshirt freshman, leads CSU Bakersfield with four goals, as the forward scored a brace in the team's overtime win versus Denver.

ABOUT UC RIVERSIDE

The Highlanders are coming off a 1-1 tie versus Penn for their second draw of the season. UCR is averaging one goal a game, as the team has just six goals through six games.

Keeper Alanna Guzman has a solid 16 saves in her five appearances to lead the Highlanders defense. Guzman has one shutout on the season. The attack is led by Quinley Quezada, as the junior leads the squad with 13 shots and seven coming on frame.
