Saint Mary’s Head Coach Paul Thomas
Opening Statement on Win:
“Yes very good thoughts after a game like that. If you came looking for offense, it probably wasn’t the game to sit and watch. As a coaching staff, we are very proud of defending BYU the way we did. Next I’d like to congratulate BYU on a very good season. Coach Judkins and I go back a long way and its always a game like that. It’s always a game of what’s going on with different styles and different sets on the floor. I felt that we did a very good job of defending their sets and people well, that was a very big difference in the game. We rebounded the ball. 50 rebounds that’s pretty good."
Megan McKay on rebounding:
McKay: “I actually get into a lot of trouble for my rebounding. But yes, watching the ball and the timing of it, getting in the right position, obviously my size is a huge advantage, but obviously I got a lot of rebounds today from other girls boxing out and that allows me to have more area to get the ball. That’s a credit to our team, we are proud that all of us can box out.
Devyn on the loud crowd in third quarter:
Galland: “It fires up the team because attendance is kind of low sometimes and when you can play in that type of environment, whether it’s against us or for us, we really get up for the game. I don’t think it hinders our play at all.”
PT on defense on Broadhead:
Thomas: “Well the first thing we wanted to do is put pressure on her defensively. We did not want her to be able to take the night off defensively. She got a couple of early fouls and that really disturbs a player’s rhythm. It was part of our game plan. I know she did not shoot the ball particularly well, but when you are in and out like that, as I said it’s hard to get a rhythm. She’s a great player. Really, really good."
Devyn on facing hometown Gonzaga
Galland: “It’s a big game the whole team. We’ve been wanting to get to this point for five years now for me. Gonzaga is always fun to play against, the crowd, environment, the stakes, right now it’s do or die at this point. It’s going to be fun playing in front of the home folks.”
