SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Lindsey Knudsen earned a major individual award for the second straight year and the Saint Mary's beach volleyball team saw five players honored Wednesday on the 2017 All-West Coast Conference Beach Volleyball teams.

Knudsen was named the 2017 WCC Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being tabbed to the All-WCC first team for the second straight season. She was named the WCC Freshman of the Year in 2016. The sophomore teamed with fellow second-year player Payton Rund at the Gaels' No. 1 pairs position all season long. The two went 24-5 as a team, including downing No. 1 Southern California's top pair of Kelly Claes and Sarah Hughes, ending the Trojan pair's 103-match winning streak at the time.

Rund was also named to the All-WCC first team. She and Knudsen earned nine victories over top pairs from nationally ranked teams. She was named to the All-WCC second team and All-WCC freshmen team in 2016.

Sarah Chase was honored twice Wednesday in her first full season playing beach volleyball with the Gaels. Chase was placed on the All-WCC second team and the All-WCC freshmen team after playing at the No. 2 position for nearly the entire year. She and partner Emily Bible went 21-8 as a pair during the season, including 19-8 at the No. 2 pairs position. Bible was also named to the All-WCC second team. She and Chase were the only Gaels pair to go unbeaten (5-0) at the WCC Championship last week.

Alexsa Parker was also named to the All-WCC freshmen team. She transferred to Saint Mary's in the middle of the school year and made an immediate impact with the beach team. As an individual, she racked up 18 victories playing with three different partners. She played all her matches at the No. 4 pairs spot, finding her most success with partner Lindsey Calvin (11-6).

Sarah Sponcil of Loyola Marymount was named the WCC Player of the Year. Teammate and No. 1 pairs partner Savannah Slattery was named the WCC Freshman of the Year. Pepperdine head coach Nina Matthies was named the WCC Coach of the Year.
