MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary’s beach volleyball team won its second home game of the season on Thursday in a sweep against Bay Area rival San Francisco.

Each of Saint Mary’s pairs swept in two and the Gaels earned their second sweep in a row after beating Pacific 5-0 on Tuesday in Stockton. SMC has bounced back well after an 0-5 defeat at the hands of #3/3 UCLA in Monterey.

Lindsey Knudsen and Payton Rund moved to 11-1 on the season after beating USF’s No. 1 duo of Nora Buvaro Lavik and Emily Reed, 21-8, 21-14. Knudsen and Rund were named to the All-West Coast Conference Preseason team and suffered their first loss on Saturday against the Bruins.

Saint Mary’s No. 2 tandem of Emily Bible and Sarah Chase earned a win against Camille Araugo and Marjolijn Oskam of San Francisco21-7, 21-14. Bible and Chase started the season 2-0 at the three spot and have since gone 6-3 at the No. 2 pair.

“I'm very pleased that we won, and we had a couple of great performances and we had some great moments,” said head coach Angela Rock. “But we're really going to be challenged tomorrow (at California)."

Mary Hernandez and Alexis Salmons closed out the day by sweeping USF’s No. 3 pair of Carly Lowry and Dane Miller, 21-16, 22-20. Lowry and Miller almost stole the second set but Hernandez and Salmons were able to hold on.

The Gaels’ No. 4 pair of Lindsey Calvin and Alexsa Parker and No. 5 duo of Alex O'Sullivan and Madi Wilkerson were both able to sweep their matches as well.

"I wasn't that happy with the play,” commented Rock on Thursday’s win. “I think we could've cleaned it up a lot more. I want to see us playing up instead of just kind of going a little bit through the motions.”

Saint Mary’s next travels to Berkeley’s Clark Kerr Sand Courts on Friday against #11/14 California at 10 a.m. and San Jose State at 4 p.m.
