SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — It was another sweep Saturday for the Saint Mary’s beach volleyball team, as the Gaels blew past their Bay Area rival San Francisco for the second week in a row by a 5-0 score at Main Beach.

All five Gaels (11-3) pairs swept their matches. SMC’s top-two pairs each won their sixth match in a row. Lindsey Knudsen and Payton Rund beat Emily Reed and Nora Buvarp Lavik, 21-14, 21-11, at No. 1 pairs. Emily Bible and Sarah Chase beat Camille Araujo and Marjolijn Oskam handily, 21-10, 21-10.

A new pairing of Alexsa Parker and Sienna Young at No. 4 earned its first victory. The duo downed San Francisco’s team of Kate Ashman and Shannon Levinson, 21-7, 21-11. It was Parker’s sixth win in a row as an individual, though she has played with three different partners this season.

The Gaels put their six-match winning streak on the line Sunday when they face No. 1-ranked USC and host San Jose State in Monterey. The USC match is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. SMC then plays SJSU at 2:30 p.m.
