Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins is the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Compliance Officer for the Gaels, serving as the liaison between the College and the NCAA and West Coast Conference with athletics compliance.

Shrieve-Hawkins has over 20 years of experience in collegiate athletics. She offers a breadth and depth of knowledge both externally and internally in supporting student-athletes, coaches, and staff. She believes in the collaboration of a campus community in providing a successful collegiate life for student-athletes.

In her current role as Associate Athletic Director at SMC, Shrieve-Hawkins provides proactive monitoring and guidance to student-athletes, coaches, staff and the campus community and directly supports the President of the College in the area of NCAA compliance. She prides herself in proposing and implementing precedential change to NCAA legislation in the areas of international certification methodologies and legislative waiver approvals for student-athletes.

Shrieve-Hawkins launched her administrative career in the area of fundraising at the University of California, Berkeley (Cal). As Director of Development and Fundraising she was instrumental in raising over 5 million dollars annually for the athletic department. In addition, she organized and carried out a regional fundraising plan projected to raise an additional 1.2 million dollars annually for athletic scholarships. She was also directly involved in capital campaigns for the Haas Pavilion and Edwards Stadium facilities at Cal. A highlight was partnering with Major League Baseball player and Cal Alum, Jeff Kent, to market and implement Kent’s Foundation, Women Driven, which generates additional scholarship awards for female student-athletes at Cal.

Shrieve-Hawkins accelerated her career by accepting a position at Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) as Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. In that role as well as in her role as Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator at University of California, Irvine (UCI), Shrieve-Hawkins supervised multiple sport programs, compliance, academic and student-services, internal operations, participated in multiple fundraising events and provided leadership in the absence of the athletic directors.

Shrieve-Hawkins has served on many committees in collegiate athletics. Those include her participation on the Executive Committees for the West Coast Conference and the Big West Conference, the Chancellor’s Executive Committee for Campus Development at UCI, the NCAA Certification Committees and Athletic Task Force at SMC, the Strategic Planning Committees at SMC and UCI, and the NCAA Amateurism Fact Finding Committee. Shrieve-Hawkins takes pride in her NCAA Title IX and Diversity training and her participation in international student-athlete issues and work-life balance seminars.

Prior to her time as an athletic administrator, Shrieve-Hawkins was an assistant volleyball coach at Cal and head coach at Contra Costa Community College. Shrieve-Hawkins’s passion for athletics in the venue of higher education is rooted in her positive experience as a scholarship student-athlete at Cal State Fullerton. Her name is still in ink in various top 10 records in volleyball for the Titans, and earned All-Academic honors from the Big West Conference and Cal State Fullerton.

Shrieve-Hawkins received her master’s degree in Kinesiology from Saint Mary’s College of California and her bachelor’s degree in child development and humanities at Cal State Fullerton. Shrieve-Hawkins is a third generation native to the Bay Area. She gives back to the community by balancing her personal and professional life with volunteering in the Berkeley schools on the PTA Board and Student Governance Council and as Board Vice President for Albany Little League.

Stephanie and her husband Spencer have two children, Oliver (11) and Axel (7).
