Tony Kearns,DC, ATC
Director of Sports Medicine
Dr Kearns is in his eighth year as Director of Sports Medicine at SMC. Prior to joining the team, Tony ran a private sports chiropractic and athletic training business based in Santa Clara. Through his business, he has served as head athletic trainer to teams across the Bay Area including SCU lacrosse and rugby, Sonoma State Lacrosse, SMC Lacrosse and Rugby and assistant athletic trainer to the former San Jose Stealth Professional Lacrosse team.
Tony's roles at SMC include overseeing day-to-day operation of all sports medicine services Administratively, Tony serves as the Fellowship Coordinator, director of the chiropractic preceptor program, and directs the ACL prevention program.
Tony received his BA in Kinesiology from Whittier College in 2003 and a Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic West in 2007. A year after completing his chiropractic degree, Tony was certified as a Chiropractic Sports Physician by the ACBSP. Tony is pleased to contribute a diverse background of integrated sports medicine ideas to the top notch Saint Mary's sports medicine program. He lives in Concord with his wife, Katie, son, Parker, 8, and daughter, Jolie, 6.

Learie Jones, MA, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer
Learie Jones embarks in his first professional year with the Gaels as the Athletic Trainer for Women's Basketball and Men's and Women's Tennis. Jones enters St. Mary's out of two years of experience as Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Ohlone Community College in Fremont, where he worked with water polo, swimming, basketball, baseball, and softball during their respective seasons. He also functioned as a Per Diem Athletic Trainer for Stanford club athletics, providing coverage for Women's Rugby and Ultimate Frisbee.
Learie received his Master's in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from San Jose State University in 2017 and completed his Bachelor's in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014, later earning his BOC certification in athletic training that summer. In his novice years as a Certified Athletic Trainer, Jones provided services to an array of Women's Soccer and Basketball camps through the University of North Carolina before enrolling to the San Jose State graduate athletic training program.
Learie Jones grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and attended East High School, where he participated in varsity sports including cross country, track, and basketball. Being competitive and involved with sports culture during his childhood is what inspired him to pursue a career in Athletic Training.

Emily Silva, MS, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer
Emily is in her fourth year with the SMC Athletic Training Staff. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from University of the Pacific in 2012, and her Master's degree in Health and Human Movement with an emphasis in Sports Medicine from Utah State University in 2014. While at UOP, she worked with women's field hockey, baseball, St. Mary's High School varsity football, and women's volleyball. As a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Utah State her responsibilities included head athletic trainer with women's gymnastics and assistant athletic trainer with football.
Along with her collegiate experience; Emily has worked at Woodward West, an extreme sports camp, in Tehachapi, California, cheerleading with the United Spirit Association, and high school wrestling state championships. Emily also served as a member of the National Athletic Training Student's Committee for one year, which allowed her to reach out to athletic training students and increase student involvement within the professional organization.
Emily's responsibilities at SMC are currently with the women's volleyball, baseball and golf programs. Administratively she will serve as lead for Saint Mary's College Athletics concussion protocol and mental health programs. Emily is also the Director of the Athletic Training Student Volunteer Program.

Chris Jamero, MA, ATC
Assistant Athletic Trainer
Chris Jamero is in his fourth year with the SMC Sports Medicine Staff. He graduated from CSU Fresno in 2014 with his M.A. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science and a B.S. in Athletic Training in 2011. As a part of his Master's program, Chris wrote a thesis entitled The Isokinetic Comparison of Collegiate Baseball Players With and Without Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit, which he presented at the FWATA District athletic training conference in 2014. Chris has been a certified athletic trainer since 2011 and possesses certifications in the Functional Movement Screen and Corrective Exercise Specialist. Prior to joining SMC, he spent three years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Fresno Pacific University where he worked with the men's soccer, baseball, and aquatics programs.
Currently, Chris is the athletic trainer for men's soccer, rugby, and men's cross country and track. He has also had experience with softball and women's lacrosse. Administratively, Chris is responsible for Sports Medicine's budget and inventory, as well as the ACL prevention program. When Chris is not traveling with his respective teams, he enjoys golfing, cooking, fishing, and watching/playing sports. Chris brings a diverse background and depth of experience to the Saint Mary's Sports Medicine team.

Assistant Athletic Trainer
Jesse Purcell is in her second year at Saint Mary's College as part of the SMC Sports Medicine Staff. She previously worked at St. Mary's College as an athletic training fellow for the 2013-14 academic year. During that year she also worked as the head athletic trainer for Branham High School in San Jose, CA in addition to her time at Saint Mary's. Prior to her return to SMC, Jesse worked at UC San Diego as an athletic trainer for Sports Clubs and previously as a Post-Graduate Intern Athletic Trainer with Intercollegiate Athletics. During her time with Sports Clubs she shared coverage for 30 club sports teams with her primary responsibility covering men's and women's rugby. She was responsible for certifying and training safety officers for all 30 teams. As a Post-Grad Intern Athletic Trainer at UCSD, she worked with the men's water polo, fencing and softball teams while also serving as a preceptor for the San Diego State University athletic training program.
She received her B.A. in Psychology from Scripps College in 2010 and her M.S. in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 2013. She loves working with all three of her current teams, but in her free time she enjoys traveling and spending time with her dog Gidget.
