SEATTLE - The Saint Mary's men's and women's track teams kicked off their 2018 seasons indoors Sunday with numerous personal records at the UW Indoor Open hosted by the University of Washington at the Dempsey Indoor facility.

The race of the day for the Gaels came in the men's 3,000 meters, where Noah McDermott ran the second-fastest time ever at Saint Mary's, clocking 8 minutes, 22.22 seconds to finish eighth in the 70-man field. Nolan Dozier ran a personal-best 8:27.23 to finish second in his heat. Mason Labadie (8:45.28), Alex Riggsby (9:01.57) and Cole Snyder (9:21.27) also all ran personal bests in the race.

Abigayle Mitchell set a new PR in the 800 in her first collegiate track meet, running 2:17.19 to finish third in her heat, the second fastest section of the day.

Abby Bolt also logged a PR in her first meet of the year, running 10:06.65 in the 3,000 to beat more than half the field on just limited winter training. Neylene Leon (10:21.94) and Katie Watson (11:22.17) also ran in the race. Allie Timbrell topped off the Gaels women's day with an appearance in the indoor mile race, finishing second in her heat in 5:10.67.

"I'm really happy with how the Gaels competed today. This was our first race of the season and the first time most of our student-athletes have raced indoors."

"To walk away with so many lifetime bests is pretty awesome heading into the (outdoor) season. It's looking to be a pretty awesome spring!"
