TRK | Gaels Set More Bests At Brutus Hamilton

BERKELEY, Calif. — A busy day on the track brought more season and personal bests for the Saint Mary's men's and women's track teams Friday at the Brutus Hamilton Open hosted by California at Edwards Stadium.

“I think we did a good job of running to our abilities, and showing that we're capable of great things,” said Saint Mary's head coach Marty Kinsey. “This sets us up great for the next couple of weeks.”

Saint Mary's made a lot of noise in the 800-meter run Friday, grabbing two heat victories and a half-dozen personal bests. Samir Habash once again lowered his personal record in the event, winning his heat in a time of 1 minute, 55.06 seconds. Jayman Peterson also improved in his second collegiate 800, running a personal-best 1:57.55. Tyler Gershman made it three Gael PRs in the same heat, running 1:58.68.

Raymond Boffman gave Saint Mary's a second heat win in the men's 800, ducking under the 1:58 mark with a personal record time of 1:57.99. Nolan Dozier also PR'd with a time of 2:00.16.

The biggest personal record of the day came when Mason Labadie cut nearly five seconds off of his best in the 1,500 meters. Labadie finished sixth in the top heat with a new best of 4:05.06. Johnny Jiminez was also in the top 1,500 heat, running 4:13.64.

Haley Dorris ran another solid 5,000 meters race, finishing second in a time of 17:11.21. Her mark was just seven seconds off of her school record set four weeks ago.

Saint Mary's next competes Saturday at the Sacramento State Open at Hornet Stadium.
