BSB | 7 Memorable Moments & Movements From '17

SMCGaels.com reviews seven memorable moments and movements from the 2017 season in honor of fall practice starting on Oct. 7.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2016): Named to the All-WCC First Team ... Started in 57 of the Gaels 58 games in the infield at second base … Recorded team-high stats including .428 on base percentage, .504 slugging percentage, 43 RBI’s, 20 doubles and 35 walks … Opened the season on Fed. 19 against Seattle University with five RBI’s … Tied for second on the team with seven homeruns … In five games from Mar. 1 to Mar. 12, racked up three homeruns … Ended the season with a .977 fielding percentage … Lead the team with 191 assists leading to putouts ... Played for the Orleans Firebrids in the prestigious Cape Cod League in Massachussetts over the summer.

AS A FRESHMAN (2015): Enjoyed one of the strongest first seasons in recent SMC history, earning Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and a spot on the WCC All-Freshman team for his debut campaign in Moraga ... Mainstay at second base hit .346 with 72 hits, 35 runs, 29 RBI, 12 doubles, one home run and 25 walks in 54 games ... Led the team in hits, tied for the team lead in at-bats (208) with Collin Ferguson and also finished second on the club in runs and third in RBI ... .429 on-base percentage was also good for second on the team ... Had 17 multi-hit games and led the team with 11 three-hit games ... Started 49 games at second base and five at shortstop ... Announced his presence right away by hitting safely in 16 of his first 17 games ... Ranked fourth in the WCC in on-base percentage, seventh in batting average and eighth in hits ... Led the WCC in sacrifice bunts with 14 ... Compiled a .958 fielding percentage with just 11 errors to 148 assists and 102 putouts ... Named Male Newcomer of the Year by the Saint Mary's athletic department.  

PRIOR TO SAINT MARY'S: Three-year letterman at Redlands East Valley High was named first team All-Citrus Belt League and All-Southern Section for hitting .387 as a junior in 2013 ... Also a Los Angeles Times All-State nominee for a Redlands East Valley team that tied for its league title and finished with the best record among Southern Section Division II schools in 2013 ...  As a senior, named first team All-Citrus Belt after hitting .348 with 23 RBI and just five strikeouts ... Helped Redlands East Valley finish first in the Citrus Belt in each of his final two years of high school ... Member of the Redlands East Valley Honor Roll throughout high school ... Plans to study Kinesiology at Saint Mary's.
