CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Saint Mary’s baseball two-way standout Kevin Milam continued to gather preseason accolades Tuesday with his second 2018 Preseason All-American nod, this time being named to the Perfect Game/Rawlings Preseason All-American Third Team.

Milam was also named a Preseason First Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Dec. 18. This year’s 2018 preseason recognitions follow a breakout freshman season in which he earned seven All-American honors while also being named the West Coast Conference’s 2017 Freshman of the Year. He was twice named an overall All-American third teamer (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, and was named a first team Freshman All-American five times (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper,, NCBWA, Perfect Game). He was also placed on the all-WCC Second Team and the all-WCC Freshmen Team.

Milam batted .313 with 12 home runs (three grand slams), 14 doubles and 55 RBIs. He slugged a team-high .547 and added 45 runs scored, 23 walks and a .397 on-base percentage. On the mound, Milam led SMC with 22 appearances -- all in relief. He posted a 3-1 record and 2.27 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings pitched. He limited opponents to a .191 batting average while only allowing 10 earned runs.

The 2018 Saint Mary's baseball season begins on Feb. 16, at Big West Conference champion Long Beach State. The Gaels' 2018 home opener will be on March 2, versus 2018 NCAA Regional participant Xavier. The Gaels host their annual First Pitch Dinner on Feb. 9, at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville.
