MILWAUKEE - Former Saint Mary's baseball All-American right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes has been invited to the Milwaukee Brewers' Major League Spring Training Camp in Phoenix ahead of the 2018 MLB season.

Burnes was named the Brewers' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017 after posting the organization's best ERA with a 1.67 mark between Class A Advanced Carolina and Double-A Biloxi. He had 13 starts in which he didn't allow an earned run, and had 19 games with at least five strikeouts.

Burnes ended the 2017 campaign ranked as the Brewers' No. 7 prospect and No. 97 overall in baseball by MLB Pipeline. In two minor league seasons, he has amassed an 11-3 record with a 1.74 ERA and 181 strikeouts in 181 1/3 innings pitched.

Brewers pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to camp on Feb. 14 and position players have a report date of Feb. 19. The first full-team workout is set for Feb. 20, at the Brewers' Spring Training home of Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix. The Brewers open their 2018 Spring Training schedule on Feb. 23 with a split squad opener vs. the Chicago Cubs at Maryvale Baseball Park and a road game against the San Francisco Giants at Scottsdale Stadium.

Burnes was named an All-American in 2016 by Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper after he helped lead the Gaels to their first-ever West Coast Conference championship and first trip to an NCAA Regional as a junior. He was named to the all-WCC First Team and the American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region second team before being drafted by the Brewers in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB First-Year Players Draft.
