DALLAS -- The preseason accolades continued to pile up Monday for Saint Mary's baseball's Kevin Milam, as the sophomore two-way standout was named a second team preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Monday's honor was Milam's fourth preseason All-American nod ahead of the 2018 campaign after receiving similar recognitions from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (first team), Perfect Game (third team) and D1Baseball.com (third team). Milam returns for the Gaels this spring after collecting seven All-American awards as a freshman last year while also being named the 2017 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year. He was twice named an overall All-American third teamer (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1Baseball.com) and was named a first team Freshman All-American five times (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1Baseball.com, NCBWA, Perfect Game). He was also placed on the all-WCC Second Team and the all-WCC Freshmen Team.

Milam batted .313 with 12 home runs (three grand slams), 14 doubles and 55 RBIs in 2017. He slugged a team-high .547 and added 45 runs scored, 23 walks and a .397 on-base percentage. On the mound, Milam led SMC with 22 appearances -- all in relief. He posted a 3-1 record and 2.27 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings pitched. He limited opponents to a .191 batting average while only allowing 10 earned runs.

The 2018 Saint Mary's baseball season begins on Feb. 16, at Big West Conference champion Long Beach State. The Gaels' 2018 home opener will be on March 2, versus 2018 NCAA Regional participant Xavier. The Gaels host their annual First Pitch Dinner on Feb. 9, at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville. The annual Alumni Game will be held at noon on Feb. 10 at Louis Guisto Field.
