BSB | Baseball America Names Milam Frosh All-American

DURHAM, N.C. — Saint Mary's baseball's Kevin Milam earned his sixth All-American award Monday for his breakout rookie campaign with the Gaels in 2017, being named a first team Freshman All-American by Baseball America.

Monday's honor from Baseball America adds to a plethora of awards he already received from nearly every major college baseball media outlet. He was twice named an overall All-American third teamer (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, and has been named a first-team Freshman All-American four times (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, NCBWA, Perfect Game, Baseball America).

Milam was the Gaels' leader at the plate and in the bullpen in 2017, helping Saint Mary's to its most wins (37) since 1977 and a second straight berth in the West Coast Conference Tournament. He batted .313 with 12 home runs (three grand slams), 14 doubles and 55 RBIs. He slugged a team-high .547 and added 45 runs scored, 23 walks and a .397 on-base percentage.

On the mound, Milam led SMC with 22 appearances – all in relief. He posted a 3-1 record and 2.27 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings pitched. He limited opponents to a .191 batting average while only allowing 10 earned runs.

Milam was also named the 2017 WCC Freshman of the Year. He was placed on both the All-WCC second team and the All-WCC Freshmen Team. He is playing his summer collegiate ball in Maryland with the Bethesda Big Train of the Cal Ripken League. Fellow SMC freshman Ken Waldichuk, as well as underclassmen Ty Madrigal and Matt Green join him there.

A gift to the Gael Athletic Fund directly benefits Saint Mary's student-athletes, allowing them the opportunity to attain an education guided by our Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions. Click the link for more information.
