Postgame Quotes - Saint Mary's 95, UNC Asheville 69

Dec. 22, 2017

Recap |  Final Stats

Head Coach Randy Bennett

Q: Thoughts about non-conference coming to a close…
Bennett: “I was pleased with the way we played. We won these last two games, after beating Dayton and Asheville, we played pretty well. We were really good offensively tonight especially in the first half. We were able to play a lot of guys. It was a great game for us. Asheville is a good team and we have a lot of respect for them. They are well coached, they play hard, and it is a good program. It is nice playing well against a good team.”

Q: Jock Landale opening everything up...offensive inside-out style...
Bennett: “We have one of the best centers in the country. Jock hurts opponents in a lot of ways. Our guys have gotten a lot better at giving him the ball. Jock is certainly one of our main ways to attack and he has become more patient.”

Q: 11-2 start… Thoughts on the last six games...
Bennett: “To go 11-2 in non-conference, really good job. We had a good win at Cal and good wins at home. Beating UNC Asheville isn’t automatic, we had to play well. I thought we got better. Maybe we will look back and say that the Thanksgiving tournament was good for us. We addressed some things and we improved because of it. I just know we are better now then what we were then.”

Q: Tanner Krebs and his performance…
Bennett: “Confidence is such a huge deal as a player. As a coach the confidence is a piece that is so real and important. Tanner knows his role is defense, guarding the four spot, and he has really helped us there. We recruited him because he is naturally a good offensive player, and that has started playing into the equation for us.”

Center Jock Landale

Q: Thoughts on tonight’s game…
Landale: “I think we had a pretty slow start on defense in the first half, but we picked it up in the second. We always look to go inside on these types of games. It is an inside-outside game and we understand if one thing is taken away the other thing will be working for us.”

Q: How good are you guys feeling about going into West Coast Conference play?
Landale: “I think we are pretty happy at where we are now, but we have a lot more to do. Rebounding and defense is our main focus, but for the most part we feel good. We gotta have confidence. A big part of being on the team is having confidence in each other.”

Forward Tanner Krebs

Q: Thoughts on how the season is going…
Krebs: “I think winning six games in a row gives us a lot of confidence going into conference play. We were pretty down after the Thanksgiving tournament, but credit to us to not looking down on ourselves. We know that there is a lot of basketball to look forward to and to make adjustments.”

Q: Can you feel the impact you have made in the starting lineup?
Krebs: “I think I am a solid defender. That is one of my strengths and my role on this team. Being able to help and do that influences other guys start to do to that.”

Q: Can you feel when you have a good shooting night?
Krebs: “I felt really good going into the game. I was able to knock shots down in warm ups. Shooting is a mental game, you have to believe every shot is going to go in. Tonight I really believed it was going to go in and for the most part I felt good.”
