MBK | Landale Earns Fifth WCC POW Award

Feb. 5, 2018

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the fifth time this season, Jock Landale has been honored with the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Award. The Gaels’ center averaged 30 points and 15 rebounds between two conference games against USF and San Diego last week to help push Saint Mary’s win streak to 18 games.

After recording his 16th double-double and seventh 30+ point game of the season against the Toreros on Saturday, Landale is averaging 22.8 points per contest on 65.8 percent shooting from the field. The Aussie is also second on the team with over two assists per game and on defense is tallying 10.8 rebounds and over a block per game.

Landale’s five Player of the Week honors this season are one shy of the record shared by Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison (2005-06) and LMU’s Bo Kimble (1989-90). His seven career POW accolades are tied for third all-time in the conference, a feat last accomplished by Saint Mary’s alum Omar Samhan (2006-10).

At 23-2, No. 11 Saint Mary’s is off to its best program start through 25 games and have achieved their highest AP ranking in school history (11). The Gaels next challenge comes on the road Thursday against Loyola Marymount before hosting rival No. 12 Gonzaga on Saturday.
