MBK | Landale Makes All-District Team

March 6, 2018

ST. LOUIS — Gaels’ center Jock Landale can add another accomplishment to his impressive senior season résumé after being named to the United States Basketball Writers Association’s (USBWA) All-District Team on Tuesday.

Landale is among 10 men named to the District IX team which consists of Div. I student-athletes from California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska. Deandre Ayton of Arizona was named Player of the Year for the district and Mark Few of Gonzaga was named Coach of the Year. Landale is one of two West Coast Conference players nominated to the team, the other being Jonathan Williams of Gonzaga.

The 6-11 center powered the Gaels to a 28-5 record this season and helped Saint Mary’s reach their highest AP-ranking in school history (11). He was named the WCC’s Player of the Year after averaging over 21 points and 10 rebounds per contest while shooting 64.0 percent from the floor.

With 705 points this year, the Aussie is only 20 points away from breaking SMC’s program record for points in a single-season, currently held by Omar Samhan who scored 724 in 2009-10.

The Gaels have placed a player on the USBWA All-District Team in nine of the previous 10 seasons. Landale joins Matthew Dellavedova as the only Gael to have been selected twice to the team.
