Season Opener Dominance
Ever since the season opening loss at UC Irvine in 2001, Saint Mary's has been impressive in season openers. The Gaels have won 16 consecutive season opening games after Saturday night's win over Saint Francis.

Saint Mary's is 125-18 (.874) at home versus non-conference opponents since 2001-02.

Last Time Out
Calvin Hermanson nearly went perfect from the field (9-of-10 FG, 5-of-6 3FG) as his 24 points helped power SMC past Saint Francis on opening night.

10 different Gaels scored in the season opener, as the trademark efficiency was on full display with 24 assists on 35 made field goals.

Emmett Naar had a career high 12 dimes, while Jock Landale notched 13 points and eight rebounds in just 23 minutes.

Impressive Streaks
Dating back to 2016-17, the Gaels are an impressive 26-1 in games when leading at halftime. SMC is also 29-0 when shooting a better three point FG percentage than its opponents and a perfect 27-0 when out-rebounding the opposition.

Gaels are Deep Again
On opening night, the depth of Saint Mary's proved impressive as 10 Gaels each scored points.
Elijah Thomas (six points), Jock Perry (two points), Tommy Kuhse (one rebound) and transfer guard Cullen Neal all made their first appearances for the Gaels on Saturday night.

Now No. 2 in Dimes
Emmett Naar is now 2nd in the program's all-time list for assists (544). The senior recorded a new career high 12 assists while running the offense in the 17-point win over the Red Flash.

Creeping Up the Record Book
With now 1,008 points, Naar moves up to tied-29th in all-time scoring. After a career high 12 assists on opening night, Naar will need 235 more assists this season to surpass Dellavedova on all-time assists.

With five more 3-pointers, Calvin Hermanson will have 187 in his career, tied-4th most in program history. 15 more 3-pointers will make Hermanson tied-3rd with Frank Allocco (197).

Landale needs just 148 made field goals to tie for 10th in program history for field-goals made (505). He also needs 222 more rebounds to have 10th most rebounds in program history.

Top Tier in the WAC
The Aggies were picked to finish second in the preseason WAC Poll, behind Dan Majerle's GCU. NMSU received one first place vote in the coaches poll.

After struggling from the floor in the first half, New Mexico State found its rhythm in the second half and routed East Central University 81-55 in its season-opener. The Aggies were led by Zach Lofton's 25 points while Jemerrio Jones added 19 points and 19 rebounds. AJ Harris chipped in with 12 points and six assists as well to round out the double-digit scorers.

The Aggies dominated the paint, outscoring the Tigers 50-14 while also out-rebounding ECU 59-30. NM State's second-half surge was helped in part to the team shooting 55.6-percent from the floor (20-for-36). At the end of the game, head coach Chris Jans put 12 different players on the floor with 10 of the 12 players scoring.

First-year head coach Chris Jans became the 26th head men's basketball coach for NM State on April 17, 2017, taking over the reins of a team that went 28-6 in 2016-17.
