High Powered Offense Blasts UNC Asheville
Saint Mary’s (11-2) never trailed against the preseason Big South Conference favorites, defeating UNC Asheville, 95-69. Saint Mary’s shot 52.6 percent from beyond the arc in the first half with 10 3-pointers. The Gaels went over the 90-point mark for the third time in 2017-18, having also done so versus Seattle (97 points) and New Mexico State (92 points). It was the team’s largest margin of victory (+26) since beating BYU by 31 points (81-50) in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals last year.

Seven Double-Doubles and Counting
Jock Landale has seven double-doubles this season, and has strung five in a row. Over the six game win streak, the senior is averaging 22 points and 10.8 rebounds on 64.6 percent shooting from the floor.

The big man has scored in double-digits in 20 consecutive games dating back to 2016-17 season. Landale currently leads the WCC in points (21.2), rebounds (9.6) and field-goal percentage (64.7). The senior is also second in offensive rebounds (3.5) and third in the WCC in defensive rebounds (6.1).

Finale in Six Game Home Stand
SMC is playing its sixth consecutive home game on Thursday night. SMC will be at BYU on Dec. 30 which will be aired on ESPNU at 1 p.m. PST.

Success in Conference Openers
Saint Mary’s has won its last 10 conference openers. The last loss in a league opener came on Jan. 6, 2007 at Santa Clara in a 76-69 loss. During the 10 game win streak, the Gaels are 6-0 at home, and 4-0 on the road.

Taking Care of the Ball
The Gaels are the top program in the country in Turnovers per game. Through 13 games, SMC is averaging just 8.5 turnovers. With this pace, this year’s team would mark the fewest turnovers by the Gaels under Randy Bennett.

Spreading the Wealth
The Gaels have had at least three players reach double-digit scoring in 11 out of 13 games this season. Averaging a league best 17.2 assists per game, SMC is tops in the country in assist-turnover ratio (2.0).

Gaels Receiving Votes
Despite being outside the top-25 in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls, Saint Mary’s is still receiving votes in the coaches poll. This past Monday, the Gaels received 11 votes in the coaches poll.

On Pace to be No. 1
Emmett Naar is 2nd in the program’s all-time list for assists (651). Naar is first in the WCC and second in the country in assists per game (9.2). The senior has recorded at least seven assists in 11 consecutive games. He currently leads the WCC with 37.4 minutes player per game (7th in NCAA). Naar has scored in double figures in eight out of the 13 games. The senior is first in assist-turnover ratio at 4.0 (8th in NCAA).

At this pace, Naar would eclipse the most assists in a single season in the 25th game of the year. Beginning the season 246 assists behind Dellavedova’s all-time record, Naar would surpass the record in 14 more games.

About the Lions
LMU has lost its last two contests by a combined total of just 10 points to Washington and Cal State Fullerton. The Lions currently have the third highest scoring offense in the WCC, averaging 78.5 points per game. Despite the high scoring offense, the Lions defense allows an average of 77.5 points.

The Lions go hard on the boards, and are second in the WCC in rebound margin (+5.6). Junior transfer James Batemon leads the Lions averaging 19.2 ppg on 53.2 percent shooting from the field, while Eli Scott is the leading rebounder for LMU (7.9 rebounds per game).
