GOLF | Sagoo, Blick Named Co-Champions at Silicon Valley Amateur

Jan. 15, 2018

MORGAN HILL, Calif. -- In a loaded field with top collegiate golfers, Saint Mary’s golf showcased its dominance with seniors Pavan Sagoo and Connor Blick named Co-Champions at the Silicon Valley Amateur Championship at Coyote Creek Golf Course.

The day’s final round got underway after a two hour delay due to thick fog, but the delay had no effect on the current Gaels.

Trailing UC Davis Aggies golfer Thomas Hutchison entering the final round, Saint Mary’s redshirt freshman Dylan VanderVeer took the top spot of the leaderboard after firing rounds of 66-73 (139). VanDerVeer would be joined by his current teammates, as Sagoo and Blick who both shot a two round total 139 for the all-Gael sudden death playoff.

Heading back to the 18th tee with the sunset quickly falling, the Gaels competed against each other in a scenic finish. After shooting an unfortunate bogey, VanDerVeer dropped out of the playoff, as the seniors competed for the title.

After shooting par on the 18th hole three more times, and with daylight faded, Sagoo and Blick both decided to share the 2018 title.

Saint Mary’s tees off the championship season at the Arizona Intercollegiate from Jan. 29-30. For the full 2018 schedule, go HERE.
