GOLF | Cohen Leads Gaels to Top-10 Finish in Hawai'i

Feb. 17, 2018  Final Leaderboard

LIHU’E, Hawai’i. — Saint Mary’s golf claimed another top-10 finish, as the Gaels ended the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in sixth place, while senior Perry Cohen tied for third in the leaderboard Saturday afternoon at Wailua Golf Course.

"I thought we had our ups and downs this week. We battled some adversity with players being sick and having injuries. Every team gets a tournament like that sometime in the year and we managed to hang in there and have a respectable finish."

"Perry played really well this week. He put himself in contention to win which is always the first goal individually. A top-three finish in a field of 121 players is a solid accomplishment. Hopefully he carries this over for the rest of the semester."

Saint Mary’s fired a final round 1-under 287 to finish the 54-hole tournament 3-under par. No. 4 Texas A&M shot a final round 14-under 274 to claim the team title at 29-under par. North Carolina and UNLV ended in second place at 12-under par, while Virginia and Arizona tied for fourth at 6-under par.

Fellow West Coast Conference competitor BYU ended in ninth place at 1-over par.

  • Cohen finished tied for third on the leaderboard at 7-under par. The senior recorded three birdies on the day.

  • The third place finish is Cohen’s best in the 2017-18 season.

  • Fellow senior Pavan Sagoo finished the tournament strong with a final round 2-under 70. Sagoo ends the invitational tied-26th at even-par.

  • Connor Blick and Brandon Jacobs both shot a final round 73.

  • The Gaels finished the tournament third in par 4 scoring (average of 4.04).
