GOLF | Gaels Battle in Long Day at Lamkin Grips Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — In a tough field, Saint Mary’s golf battled throughout the day, and ended the full day’s action in 11th place heading into tomorrow’s final round of the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at San Diego Country Club.

CURRENT LEADERBOARD

  • No. 1 Oklahoma State holds a 17-stroke lead at 23-under par. San Diego State sits in second place at 6-under while No. 9 Texas Tech and North Carolina are tied-3rd at 4-under par. Pac-12 competitor Arizona rounds out the top-5 of the leaderboard at 3-under par. 
  • The Gaels (+11) are just three strokes away from cracking the top-10. 
FIRST ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
  • Perry Cohen led the Gaels with a team best 2-under 70. The senior, who is coming off back to back top-5 finishes, fired five birdies in his opening 18 holes. 
  • Pavan Sagoo shot an even-par 72 and ended the first round tied-26th in the field.
  • Fellow senior Connor Blick shot three birdies and finished with a 2-over 74 through 18 holes. 
  • Playing as an individual, Dylan VanderVeer holed in an eagle on the par 5 second hole. 
SECOND ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cohen again led the Gaels with a 1-under 71. The senior made three birdies with just two bogeys in the round. 
  • Cohen sits in solo 11th on the leaderboard at 3-under par. 
WHERE THE GAELS RANK
  • Saint Mary’s is second in the field in total pars with 116 through 36 holes played. 
  • Vanderveer is tied for second in the field of 96 players in par 5 scoring (-5). 
UP NEXT: FINAL ROUND
  • Saint Mary’s will tee off the 10th tee for the final round. The Gaels are paired with New Mexico and Texas and will tee off at 9:39 a.m. PDT.
