GOLF | Sagoo Leads Gaels After First Round in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. -- In the 19 team field, Saint Mary's golf finished the opening round of the Pacific Invitational tied-8th after shooting a 1-under par 287, while senior Pavan Sagoo led the Gaels with a first round 69.


Fellow West Coast Conference competitor Santa Clara sits atop the leaderboard at 9-under par, while BYU is in second at 7-under. Santa Clara is currently 22nd in the latest GolfStat rankings, while BYU (29) and Saint Mary's (48) are the other two programs in the deep field ranked inside the top-50.

Denver is in solo third at 6-under par, while Grand Canyon, Long Beach State and Nevada are tied for fourth at 5-under. South Dakota is in seventh at 3-under, while the Gaels are tied-8th with three other teams.

Flip Lundell of GCU leads the leaderboard after his opening round 65 (-7).

  • Sagoo finished tied-8th in the field at 3-under par, with four birdies and one bogey in the opening round.
  • Blake Hathcoat shot an even par 72 as he was No. 2 on the Gaels lineup.
  • Perry Cohen, Ash Hakim and Connor Blick all shot 1-over 73 in the opening round. 
  • Playing as an individual, Max Ferrari carded two birdies in the front nine and shot a 2-over 74. 
  • The Gaels are tied for the lead in par 3 scoring (-1) with a 2.95 average.
