GOLF | Gaels Finish 3rd After Strong Final Round

STOCKTON, Calif. — In the final round of the Pacific Invitational, Saint Mary’s surged up the leaderboard, shooting 15-under in the final 18 holes to finish in third place on Saturday at The Reserve Golf Club at Spanos Park.

THE LEADERBOARD

Fellow West Coast Conference competitors Santa Clara and BYU finished as the top two in the leaderboard, as the Broncos claimed the wire-to-wire victory at 30-under par. The Cougars finished at 26-under par, while the Gaels completed the top three of the leaderboard.

Nevada (-11) and Grand Canyon (-8) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

BYU’s Patrick Fishburn claimed medalist honors after shooting 70-68-65 (-13) for the one stroke victory over South Dakota’s Tom Vining.

  • “That was a round we needed today. It was nice to see that we could bounce back and play a solid round when we really needed it.”
FINAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS
  • Perry Cohen shot a 5-under 67 to finish tied-19th in the field at 3-under par. 
  • The Senior finished with six birdies and one bogey on his final round card.
  • Connor Blick and Blake Hathcoat both finished tied-23rd at 2-under par. 
  • Pavan Sagoo ended the tournament with a final round 66 (one eagle, five birdies, one bogey) and finished tied-4th at 9-under par. 
  • Today’s 15-under 273 was tied for the second lowest round in all of the tournament. 
  • Gaels best four scores combined for an eagle, 19 birdies and just six bogeys on Saturday. 

UP NEXT: SAINT MARY’S INVITATIONAL
  • Saint Mary’s concludes the fall schedule with the Saint Mary’s Invitational from Nov. 6-8. 
  • The invitational will be hosted at Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach, Calif. 
  • The field includes 18 teams, with six competing in last year’s NCAA Regionals (Saint Mary’s, BYU, Stanford, USC, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego State).
