GOLF | Gaels Wrap Play At Saint Mary's Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's golf team wrapped up the 2013 Saint Mary's Invitational on Tuesday under picturesque conditions, finishing fifth in the team standings at Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside.

Alex Bungert was Saint Mary's highest-placing individual with a three-round total of 4-over par 220. That score placed Bungert in a tie for 12th. Maclayne Marr carded the Gaels' best round on Tuesday, shooting an even-par 72 that included five birdies.

Cal walked away with the team title with a combined score of 10-under 854. Oregon finished second at 20-over par 884. San Diego's Grant Forrest claimed the individual title, birdieing his last two holes to shoot a 3-under 69 on the final day and finish at 7-under (209) for the tournament.

Following Bungert in the individual standings for the Gaels were junior Tye Gabriel, who shot rounds of 3-over, 1-over and 3-over to finish with a 7-over 223, and Marr, whose even-par round on Tuesday left him at 7-over for the tournament as well. Rounding out SMC's scoring five were Dalan Refioglu (plus-11 227) and Cody Robinson (plus-16 232).

Saint Mary's also played three individuals this week, with freshman Hunter Rappleye leading that group at 13-over 229. Nick Sako carded a three-round total of 14-over 230 and Jay Pinkos finished at 17-over 233.

Next up for Saint Mary's is a trip to Akron, Ohio from Oct. 7-8 to take part in the Firestone Intercollegiate at Firestone Country Club.
