Final Stats

MORAGA, Calif. -- In the season's final match, Saint Mary's men's soccer got off to a quick start, and eventually finished the season with a narrow 3-2 win versus Portland on Saturday afternoon.

With today's win, Saint Mary's moves to 6-6-5 on the year, and 3-2-2 in West Coast Conference play. The Pilots, who are fighting for their second consecutive conference championship, fall to 9-7-1 and 4-2-1 in conference action.

Honoring the seniors before kickoff, the Gaels quickly pressed the Pilots defense as Dakota Armour and Frederick Karman set up Ever De La Torre for the Gaels first goal in the third minute.

The Gaels jumped out to the 2-0 lead just 10 minutes later, as Armour collected his second assist of the match. SMC would outshoot Portland 10-4 in the opening half, and would keep the two goal advantage into halftime.

In a physical second half, the Gaels and Pilots combined for three yellow cards within the first 20 minutes. SMC extended its lead in the 68th minute off a powerful 25-yard strike by Anders Engebretsen.

Trailing 3-0, the Pilots quickly turned the match around after scoring two goals in a three minute span.

With 14 minutes left in the game, the Pilots nearly equalized the game off a curling free kick from Erik Edwardson that went just wide of the left post. The Gaels would fend off the Pilots comeback and close the season with the 3-2 win over Portland.
