MSOC | Saint Mary's To Wrap Up Season Against Portland

MORAGA, Calif. --
The Gaels will conclude their regular season this Saturday as they host Portland at 1 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium. As the last home game of the year, Saint Mary's will honor their seven graduating players prior to the match during Senior Day festivities.

The seven players who will be playing their final game as a Gael include Tobias Clauss, Max Mirner, Andrew Konstantino, Dakota Armour, Ben Braman, Ever De La Torre, and Frederick Karman. Clauss and Karman are graduate transfers who will be moving on after this season.

SMC is most recently coming off a 0-0 draw against Pacific last week. The Gaels' are 5-6-5 on the season and 2-2-2 in conference play with both ties coming in their last two matches. Saint Mary's remains undefeated at home this season with a 2-0-4 record. With a win or a tie on Saturday, it would be the first time in men's soccer history that the team went unbeaten at home.

The Pilots sit atop the WCC standings at 4-1-1 in conference play and are 9-6-1 overall. The team has won their last three out of four matches and are 32nd in the RPI rankings. With USF and Pacific looming just one and three points behind, respectively, the Pilots will need a win in order to secure the WCC season title.

Portland has averaged over two goals this season despite being outshot by their opponents, 193-190. Freshman Benji Michel leads the team with 10 goals while sophomore Rey Ortiz has dished out 13 assists this season. Paul Christensen has started all 16 matches for his squad and has made 44 saves with six shutouts in total.

Last season, the Pilots defeated the Gaels in Portland with a 1-0 decision. Prior to last season, the Gaels had won the last six out of seven matches against UP.
